Waiting is the Hardest Part…

My initial/monogram prints are at the printer right now. I am SO excited to see what they look like! I’m getting them printed at a local shop that works exclusively with The Rhode Island School of Design, also known as RISD. They are going to be giclee prints, and I’ll be listing them on Etsy this weekend (hopefully!).

Here is a little sample of the black and white ones.

Initial art print © Mary Tanana 2014I am “old school”, I LOVE to draw with pencil/ink on paper. So…this is my process.

M initial sketch © Mary Tanana 2014I have a huge library of these papercut style flowers, wycinanki. Wycinanki are traditional Polish folk style papercut flowers. I’ve drawn them in Adobe Illustrator as vector images. I’ve arranged them within the body of a letter.

M initial sketch © Mary Tanana 2014Then I’ll print them out, and draw the rest with pencil to fill it in. I can’t think of how to do this straight on the computer, so this works for me.
