So excited to let you know that my long awaited fabric collection, Folky-Dokey, is now available at Modern Yardage! YAY! It’s been a long time in development, and I think it’s worth the wait.
I created this collection last year as part of a final project for a class that I took at The Rhode Island School of Design. The class was fabulous, it was advanced techniques for Surface Design in Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I learned so much in this class, plus it was fun to meet new people. And it made me feel like a college kid again, I actually got to walk to class! Cool, huh?
We had to come up with Mood/Theme boards as part of the project. I researched a few trends, and chose to explore one of Patternbank’s trends for Spring/Summer 2014, called “Eastern Craft”. Intense embroidery, Russian folkloric print references, Eastern Europe folk inspired, traditional brocades. LOVE IT!
Here is my board.
I did A LOT of sketching for this one. At first I couldn’t figure out which direction I should take.
I wanted to add a lacy-like border design like in the bottom right of this sketch page, but it never quite worked out. I’ll save it for another collection!
And of course, I went color crazy. This collection comes in 8 colorways! What the heck was I thinking? I love, love playing with color, I just couldn’t help myself, hehe. It’s part of the reason that it took me so long to finalize this group.
This colorway is titled “Adventure”. You can find the whole collection by clicking HERE. I’ll be featuring each colorway in upcoming blog posts.
Here is the whole collection (below) at a glance. Each design comes in 3 different sizes/scales, perfect for crafting, quilting, or whatever you can dream up!
Thanks for stopping by!! I hope that you enjoyed my post about how I developed this collection.
