Hey there! I finished a fun project this week, for Lilla Roger’s Global Talent Search. Lilla is a fabulous art licensing agent, and represents some of the best talent worldwide. She recently posted that she’s looking for the next “new talent”, and through a series of live briefs for different areas of industry, will pick one lucky person. The winner will be represented by Lilla Rogers Studio for two years internationally. How cool is that?
This is the first challenge. Create a journal, with a playground theme. I immediately panicked. I’m not too good at drawing objects, like slides, swingsets, even children. EEEP! One of my friends, Lisa Rivas, posted “OK the plan now for all of us is to go to a playground this week-end and really play! …with our sketch books, cameras, etc… There will be an influx of images on the market soon enough! When was the last time you were at a playground?” I thought about this, and remembered that the last time I went to a playground, the little girls were doing chalk drawings. BINGO!!!
How cute are these photos? I took them about a year ago at a playground near my Mom’s house.
So I started drawing all kinds of kid stuff. Anything that popped into my head. It turned out to be pretty fun! Then I had to figure out how to translate it into a real looking chalk drawing.
Et voila, here is my entry 🙂 I ended up using Corel Painter, as it has TONS of special brush effects that are super realistic. I even set the virtual “paper” to draw on as “worn pavement”. The background is a pic of asphalt pavement. Cool, huh? I color-picked the chalk colors from this photo on the internet, hehe!
They will choose the top 50 finalists on August 1. Wish me luck! The talent pool for this is unbelievable. It was very neato to see how everyone interpreted this theme. I named my entry “Chalktastic”.
