First of all..HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I, for one, am excited for what 2014 holds… 2013 was chock full of new and exciting opportunities, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next 12 months!
I haven’t entered a contest in months. To be honest, I was “contested” out. They can be fun, but also time-consuming and sometimes frustrating depending on how the voting is set up. So…I’ve entered Spoonflower’s “Spring Floral Cheater Quilt Block” Contest. They have one each week with a different theme. This one was palette restricted, meaning Spoonflower supplied the lovely Spring palette colors (below)
Cheater quilt blocks feature fabric designed and printed to look like patchwork or applique so that you can skip the piecework and go straight for quilting.
This is my entry, “Granny’s Millefiori Quilt”.
The word millefiori is a combination of the Italian words “mille” (thousand) and “fiori” (flower), and I’ve been pretty much obsessed with these since I was a child. I’ve been making kaleidoscopes of some of my millefiori patterns, and turned them into little Granny Squares. In this view they look like those crocheted Granny Squares that you’ve seen on afghans. But if you look at the enlarged view, there are hundreds if not thousands of little flowers, hence the name “millefiori”. I love how it came out!
These are a few of the squares enlarged.
Here is another view of the complete pattern. The repeat size is pretty large, over 2 feet!
If you would care to vote for my design and some of the other fabulous ones in this week’s contest, please click HERE to go to the voting page. You don’t have to be a member of Spoonflower or have to log in to vote.
Thanks for stopping by!!
